Rocky is one of the main characters in the Series ‘PAW Patrol’ which has been airing primarily on TVOKids since 2013. He is one of the Protagonists of the show and a member of the PAW Patrol. Rocky is the Recycling expert of the group, using bits and pieces of recycled material to repair and even build items. Coupled with his great mechanical know-how, he’s able to fix a multitude of broken or malfunctioning machines. So, what kind of dog is Rocky from Paw Patrol?
Though not specified specifically what breed he is, he is explained as a 6-year-old mixed breed dog. Though many have assumed what breed he could be, from a Terrier mix to a Schnauzer/Scottish Terrier mix. One common denominator with all of the assumptions is that he has a strong resemblance to a Terrier but the other breed he could be mix with is more difficult to distinguish.
Scottish Terriers are a small breed of terriers that are considered as one of only five breeds of terriers that originated from Scottland. They are dogs that have a height of around 25 cm (9.8 inches) and a weight of 8 kg to 10 kg (18 lbs to 22 lbs). Their coats are rather wiry but they do have a soft undercoat. What sets the Scottish Terrier apart is its distinct shape and structure. They have a territorial and feisty demeanor and an intelligent and independent personality that earned them the nickname the ‘Diehard’.
Schnauzers are a type of dog breed that originated from the 14th to 16th centuries in Germany. Its name is derived from the German word for “snout” or even “mustache” which may be due in part to the dog’s famously bearded snout. They are three main types of Schnauzers.
Rocky first appeared on the episode “Pups Make a Splash” which was the first-ever episode of the series where he is introduced as the fifth member of the Paw Patrol. This is also the episode where they establish that Rocky has Aquaphobia though this becomes a running gag throughout the series as he is constantly getting wet. He does however face that fear whenever he needs to save someone though he never seems to permanently get over it. He is also a very clever dog, utilizing different materials that he finds and what he has and melding them together for overall better use.
Though his breed still remains a mystery, we can consider that he has taken the intelligent and playful nature of the Terrier quite well. and while he doesn’t share much with the Schnauzers, he does have their versatility.
