There are quite a handful of dog breeds with names beginning with the letter F. Most of them are the breeds’ alternative names. There are also quite a few breeds from France. In total, we found 32 dog breeds that begin with f as follows:
Flat-coated Retriever
Flat-Coated Retrievers come from England and belong to the gundog family of dog breeds. These dogs are active and easy-going. This breed is a bark pointer which barks to pinpoint the prey’s position as well as distract their attention in an attempt to allow the hunter to capture the prey easier.
French Bulldog
French Bulldog originates from France and are known as bouledogue français in French. This breed was developed in the 1800s from a mix of Toy Bulldogs from England and local ratter dogs in France. These dogs are stocky and compact. They are also friendly and have a mild temperament. Hence, they are kept as companion dogs.
Fila Brasileiro
Fila Brasileiro comes from Brazil and is also known as Brazilian Mastiff. This breed is large in size. They also have great tracking ability. These dogs are also aggressive.
Finnish Lapphund
Finnish Lapphund belongs to the Spitz family of dogs. This breed was developed by crossbreeding post-domesticated female wolves with male dogs. These dogs are medium in size and have an easy going temperament. They are bred primarily to herd reindeer.
French Spaniel
The French Spaniel is known as Epagneul Français in French. This Is a type of Spaniel setter and is amongst the largest Spaniel breeds. The breed was created in the 14th century in France. Their coat is white in color and brown markings can be found on it. They are used as hunting dogs.
Farmer Dog (AKA Australian Kelpie)
Farmer Dog comes from Australia and is known as the Australian Kelpie. They are used as sheepdogs and can gather and drive sheeps without human guidance. These dogs are medium in size and they can be in a number of colors.
Fawn Brittany Basset (AKA Basset Fauve De Bretagne)
Fawn Brittany Basset comes from Brittany in France. This breed is a type of scenthound with short legs and were descended from Grand Fauves which is a large dog but are no longer in existence.
