There are really a lot of dog breeds with name beginning with the letter B. In total, there are 105 of them. These are the dog breeds that begin with b:
Beagle
The beagle is a type of scent hound. They are small in size and look like the foxhound, except that the foxhound are larger. This breed is created in Great Britain in 1830 from a mix of Talbot Hound, Southern Hound, North Country Beagle, and possibly Harrier dog breeds. Beagles are very popular and are found in literature, paintings, comic books, film and TV. The famous Snoopy cartoon character is said to be of this breed too.
Borzoi
Borzoi has existed since the 17th century. Their ancestors were the working dogs of the people who came from countries in Central Asia to the present day Russia area. Up until 1936, Borzoi was called the Russian Wolfhound.
Basset Hound
The Basset Hound belongs to the hound family of dogs with short legs. They descended from Bloodhound and inherited a strong sense of smell and have the same loose skin around the neck. These dogs are bred to hunt hare.
Bichon Frise
A Bichon Frise belongs to the bichon family of dogs. The word bichon means small dog in French. And these dogs are a small dog breed. These dogs are gentle and are kept as lapdogs. The earlier bichon breed actually comes from Spain and were bred as sailing and herding dogs. This breed are descendents of poodle-type dogs.
Border Collie
The Border Collie originates from the Anglo-Scottish borders and are bred for herding livestock. These dogs are very intelligent and energetic.
Bulldog
Bulldog is a very popular dog breed in US. In 2017, they were ranked fifth. These dogs are muscular and have a wrinkly face with push-in nose.
Bernese Mountain Dog
The Bernese Mountain Dog has its origins in the Swiss Alps and is one of the 4 Sennenhund dog breeds found there. This breed descends from the Roman mastiffs.
Belgian Shepherd
The Belgian Shepherd comes from Belgium and is medium in size. They are bred for herding livestock. There are 4 varieties for this breed that differentiates based on their coat type and colour.
Bedlington Terrier
The Bedlington Terrier comes from North East England in the Bedlington Northumberland mining town and this is how it got ‘Bedlington’ in its name. This breed is small in size and is bred for hunting, dog racing, dog shows and as companion dogs. Its close relatives are Whippet, Dandie Dinmont Terrier, and Otterhound.
Basset Fauve De Bretagne
The Basset Fauve de Bretagne comes from Brittany in France. They descended from the extinct Grand Fauves which are larger in size. This is a scent hound which is bred for hunting.
Bouvier Des Flandres
The Bouvier des Flandres comes from Flanders in Belgium. The French name means the “Cow Herder of Flanders”. These dogs were originally use to drive cattle, herd sheep and pull cart. Today, they are used as police and guard dogs and they are also kept as pets.
Boykin Spaniel
The Boykin Spaniel comes from the US and is a type of Spaniel dog breed. They are bred to hunt wild ducks and turkeys. This dog is medium in size and is a bit larger than the English Cocker Spaniel.
Bull And Terrier
The Bull and terrier is no longer in existence. It is the ancestor for several bull-type terriers.
Berger Picard
The Berger Picard comes from Picardy and is also known as the Picardy Shepherd. This is a type of herding dog and is a rare breed that almost went into extinction after the 2 world wars. These dogs are medium in size and muscular.
Bloodhound
The Bloodhound is an ancient breed that has existed since the Middle Ages. They are a type of scent hound and are large in size. These dogs are used to hunt deer and wild boars as well as track people. They are known for being able to recognize human scent over long distances and even days apart. Its keen nose and tracking instincts make this a dog used by police and law enforcement to track lost pets, missing people and even escaped prisoners.
Bareeru (AKA Azawakh)
The Azawakh breed of dog comes from West Africa. They are found in Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso in the Sahelian zone. The Sloughi is more closely related to them than the Saluki.
