Mop Dog (AKA Komondor)
Mop Dog originates from Hungary and is large in size. They have a long white colored coat and are used to guard livestock. Turkic speaking nomads called Cumans settled in Hungary in 12th and 13th centuries and brought the breed with them.
Merry Cocker. (AKA American Cocker Spaniel)
This breed belongs to the Spaniel family and its close relative is the English Cocker Spaniel. During the Mayflower period in 1620, the first spaniel was brought to America. This is the smallest breed among the AKC-recognized sporting dogs.
Mal Or Mally (AKA Alaskan Malamute)
Originally bred as a sled dog to haul heavy freight, Alaskan Malamute is large in size. These breeds are similar to those of arctic, husky, and spitz dogs. It was believed that they were bred by Malemiut Inupiaq tribe from the Norton Sound region of Alaska.
Mountain Collie (AKA Bearded Collie)
In the past, Scottish shepherds used the Bearded Collie, also known as the Beardie, primarily in herding. The breed was originally bred to herd sheep in Scottish Highlands, and is an energetic dog.
Moscovian Miniature Terrier (AKA Russkiy Toy)
Moscovian Miniature Terrier is amongst the smallest dog breeds. In this breed, there are two kinds; one has long coats, while the other has smooth ones. The latter has a close resemblance to Pražský Krysařík breed in Czech Republic.
Montenegrin Mountain Hound
This breed is native to mountain regions throughout the Balkans and is a rare breed. Previously, this breed was called Yugoslavian Mountain Hound. But their name was changed by FCI in 1997. Often, this breed is used to hunt foxes, hares, and small game.
Mudi
Mudis are herding dogs from Hungary. Its close relatives are Puli and Pumi. Mudis have tails of varying lengths, from bobtails to full tails.
Maltese Dog
Maltese Dog belongs to the toy dog group. It is believed that this breed descended from dogs of the spitz type in south-central Europe. This breed has a silky coat of pure white color. It also has hanging ears and a tail that curves over its back.
Miniature Pinscher
German miniature pinschers belongs to the pinscher dog family and are small in size. Dogs of the breed are believed to descend from a combination of German Pinschers, Italian greyhounds, and dachshunds.
Miniature Bull Terrier
Miniature Bull Terriers are descendants of an extinct English White Terrier, Dalmatian, and Bulldog. The breed’s existence was first recorded in 1872 in the “Dogs of British Island”. Their coat is short, silky, and glossy and is close to the skin.
